Colors of the Wind – Pocahontas (Disney)

A lovely, low tune to practice – “Colours of the Wind” is the main song from the Disney film Pocahontas. I particularly enjoyed this one on flute, it (nearly) sounds lovely! Beginners, piccolos and recorders may need to shift the notes up a bit to play comfortably, pianists should have no problem. Enjoy!

C          G     Bb     Bb     G-G-F         F     D#     F     C
You think you own whatever land you land on

C       G    Bb   Bb  G    G        F         F     D#     G
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim

Bb  ^C   Bb   Bb-G   G      F        F    D#     F – C
But I know every rock and tree and creature

F      G    F    D#  F  G-Bb    F  G    C
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name…

C          G     Bb  Bb-G    G-F       F    D#    F-C
You think the only people who are people

C        C    G-Bb       G      G      F        F      D#   Bb
Are the people who look and think like you

Bb  ^C   Bb   Bb   G       G – F      F   D#   F – C
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger

F              G          F        D#    F-G       F
You’ll learn things you never knew

D#    C-D#    D#
You never knew…

G      Bb  ^D#-^D  ^D  ^C  ^C   Bb
Have you ever heard the wolf cry

Bb   G      G     Bb      ^C
To the blue corn moon?

^C  ^D#   ^D   ^D-^C    ^C-Bb   Bb    G    Bb
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grins?

G      Bb  ^D# ^D  ^D  ^C  ^C-Bb
Can you sing with all the voices

Bb  ^C  Bb – D#
Of the mountain?

C        D#      F       G     G     F    F-D#    D#   C    F
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

C       D#      F        G     G     F    F-D#   D#   C    D#
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind…?

C             G    Bb   Bb-G     G        F     F    D#   F-C
Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest

C               G      Bb    Bb – G          G – F     F   D#   Bb
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth

Bb       ^C  Bb  Bb  G     G-F     F    D#-F    C
Come roll in all the riches all around you

F         G       F      D#-F    G-Bb
And for once, never wonder

F                 G            C
What they’re worth…

G       ^D     ^C     Bb    ^C-Bb-G    D#
How high does the sycamore grow?

C    D#   F    G    F        C       D#       G-F       F
If you cut it down, then you’ll never know…

G      Bb   ^D#-^D   ^D   ^C  ^C    Bb
And you’ll never hear the wolf cry

Bb    G    G     Bb     ^C
To the blue corn moon

^C   ^D#-^D  ^D  ^C  ^C    Bb    Bb-G      Bb
For whether we are white or copper skinned

F       G    Bb   ^D#
We need to sing

^D    ^D  ^C  ^C-Bb  Bb  ^C   Bb-D#
With all the voices of the mountains

C         C    D#    F
We need to paint

G        G     F     F-D#   D#   C    D#
With all the colors of the wind…

C      D#      F      G      G         F      F
You can own the earth and still

D#      F      G   Bb   G    Bb-^C
All you’ll own is earth until

Bb   ^C   ^D#
You can paint

^D   ^C   Bb    G-F
With all the colors

D#   C    D#
Of the wind…
