You Raise Me Up – Josh Groban

The song “You Raise Me Up” has an interesting backstory – it was originally released by British band Secret Garden in 2002, and didn’t make an impact at all. A year later in 2003, Josh Groban covered it which became hugely popular in the US. It wasn’t until a few years later when Westlife covered it, that it took off in the UK, having travelled round the world 🙂

The letter notes below are the basic melody which most versions share and therefore most people should know. I hope you enjoy practising 🙂

.Bb   .Bb  D#  G
When I am down

D#   F   D#  D#  C  .Bb-D#
And all my soul so weary

D            D#-G        Bb
When troubles come

D#   ^C     Bb       Bb – G     F
And my heart burdened be

Bb  Bb ^D ^D#
Then, I am still

^D   ^D   ^C  Bb   G#   Bb-G
And wait here in the silence

D#-Bb  G#  G
Until you come

G      G    F-D#     D     D#
And sit awhile with me

Bb  ^C  ^D  ^D#
You raise me up

^D ^D ^C Bb  G#   Bb – G
So I can stand on mountains

Bb    ^F  ^D# ^D#
You raise me up

^D  ^D  ^C  Bb-G#  Bb
To walk on stormy seas

Bb ^D ^D#
I am strong

^D   ^D  ^C  Bb   G#  Bb-^D#
When I am on your shoulders

D#   Bb   G#  G
You raise me up

G      G      F   D#  D  D#
To more than I can be
