Written in the early 70's as a tribute to Vincent Van Gogh, this song is often referred to as "Starry, Starry Night" and is a lovely, slow, fun tune to play - a great one for beginners :)

D-E        G-A        B
Starry, starry night

B             A        G-E        A       B       E
Paint your palette blue and grey

B          A     G     E     A-B        E
Look out on a summer's day

F#         G      F#      E       D
With eyes that know the

E-F#          G     A     B
Darkness in my soul.

D-E            G     A     B
Shadows on the hills...

B              A        G       E        E     A-B-E
Sketch the trees and the daffodils

B              A         G        E       E      A-B       E
Catch the breeze and the winter chills

F#  G-F#   E   D     E-F#    G-A      G
In colors on the snowy linen land.

G       A       B-G-A
Now I understand

A            B      ^C  ^D   B   B   B
What you tried to say to me

B         ^C       B-A       G     E      B-A-A
How you suffered for your sanity

A           A       A     B   ^C     A       B
How you tried to set them free.

B              B      ^C    B-A
They would not listen

They did not know how

Perhaps they'll listen now...

D-E         G-A       B
Starry, starry night

B  -  A           G             E        A-B         E
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze

Swirling clouds in violet haze

Reflect in Vincent's eyes of China blue.

Colors changing hue

Morning fields of amber grain

Weathered faces lined in pain

F#          G            F#-E       D      E-F#
Are soothed beneath the artist's

G-A          G
Loving hand....

And now I understand

What you tried to say to me

They would not listen

They did not know how
